2020 TRIATHLON & MARATHON RELAYS
JUNE 19, 2020 AT 7:30 PM
UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY KROGER FIELD
We have unfortunately had to postpone the 2020 Survive the Night Relays due to the coronavirus pandemic and the social distancing requirements for Kentucky. We are currently evaluating our options, and hope to announce soon a new race date in August 2020.
The Survive the Night Triathlon is the first (that we know of) overnight triathlon relay which we started in 2015. This race is first and foremost meant to be a memorable experience for both beginners and experienced athletes. The best part about the race is you don’t have to be a triathlete – if your forte is swimming, running, or biking, or something entirely different – all you have to do is work together as a team!
Teams will swim 2.4 miles (80 laps in the pool), transition run 0.4 miles, cycle 120 miles (100 laps in a closed loop), and run 26 miles (20 laps of 1.3-mile out and back course) crossing the finish line with the team.
REGISTRATION OPENS FEB. 1
The race builds on the full-distance triathlon (sometimes referred to as an Ironman) and consists of a 2.4-mile swim, 120 miles biking, and 26.2 miles running. Added up with the additional distances for the transition run, plus a little give or take on the main disciplines to even out the number of laps, and the total distance is nearly 150 miles. Teams are required to complete athlete exchanges within the designated zones, so each participant must complete at least one lap of either the swim, bike or run course. But beyond that, together your team decides how to breakdown the total distance and who does what.
In order to make this event as exciting and fun as possible, we will bring in DJs, food, and other entertainment, and when you add that to the atmosphere of the event itself in the middle of the night, everyone is sure to enjoy themselves.
